In September 2010, the city of Leuven started the complete reconstruction of the “Maarschalk Foch plain”, a square in the center of the city. The result would look completely different and the construction works were planned to last at least 18 months. I had the idea to try to document the progress of these construction works through a photo-blog. I started the website in November 2010 and within the first 2 weeks, the site got mentioned in 2 national newspapers (De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad), both on their website as in the printed edition.

During my teenage years I was a very active badminton players and while I don’t play anymore these days, I still love the sport. That’s why I’m on the organization team that puts together Belgium’s largest international tournament: the Yonex Belgian International. Our tournament is part of the Badminton Europe circuit and is considered among the best organized and most prestigious in the circuit by players, coaches and spectators. I take care of the website and social media updates, am one of the photographers and all round volunteer during the event.

The Mobile Revolution

The Mobile Revolution is a Belgian news-site (written in Dutch) that aims to publish news, reviews and opinions about everything related to mobile technology. I don’t do any real writing for the site itself but I manage the web server it runs on. We are currently running CentOS with Apache and using WordPress as our CMS. This project has helped me to further develop my Linux skills and has taught me a lot about running an actual live site. I keep things updated, install new packages when required and adapt the WordPress code to fix our needs.
